Dear Princess
Thank you for taking the time to play my game 😊 I built this in about 10 days for the NES Jam 2025. My goal for the game was to build a cozy game in an NES style... which my game doesn't exactly look NES, it's more of NES how I remember it looking when I was a kid. Play the game full screen and you can see the quests with the "M" button. The game is fully beatable, features a small weather system, and easy puzzles, should take 10-15 minutes.
Explore the charming village, meet quirky animal townsfolk, a gruff bear baker, a bashful pig blacksmith, a dreamy cat musician, a sunny rabbit gardener, and a mysterious frog fisher. Each of them wants to send a letter and small gift to the princess, but they'll need your help to find the right words... and maybe a missing item or two.
Dear Princess is a cozy, story-rich platformer made in the classic 8-bit NES style (sorta). It was lovingly created for the 2025 NES Game Jam. No combat. No timer. Just good vibes, small acts of kindness.
This is a game about kindness, timing, and connection. Take your time, enjoy the journey, and save the princess, not by fighting dragons (although, maybe that would be more exciting...lol), but by bringing a little hope back to the kingdom.
Update: Because I ran out of time on my original idea I am going to be working on the game and adding the following over the next month until the Kenny Game Jam starts. These ideas are from suggestions as well as things I didn't get to implement:
- Mine level (With mining) (would replace Hamlins lost tongs quest)
- Fishing with the Finn (would replace Finn's lost lure quest)
- Actual Letter writing system (originally was what the game was based on)
- Controllers working
- The Secret Statue quest
- Updated music and sound effects
- Some type of harmless creature to boop the head of when you walk to keep it interesting (this could also be someone's quest)

Beautiful art! :) I love the concept with mini quests for each villager. It really brought the game to life.
Thank you for playing it :D I had so much more planed, but I'm really happy with how it came out so far :)
Beautiful pixel art
I gave up trying to find the tuning fork though, since I went back and forth a couple times and I didn't see it before.
I guess it does not spawn until you talk to the villager asking for it? The walking speed is on the slow side to have to walk back and forth for every item.
Thanks for playing :) Yeah I played with the walking speed some and could never find a right speed really. I think I have some good things to add to it once the jam is done, making the walking more interesting and changing where the items are some.
Yeah 100% it spawns when you talk to them, I didn't wnat to do an inventory of items so that was my work around I guess, the walkign to the items is rough though, speically with nothing else really to do.
Couldn't fix the controller issue unfortunately, I think it's just the way I made it, or something odd with my testing controller, idk. But you can play it fully with keyboard, there isn't anything that would require precise controls in this game.
The controller isn't working currently I'm trying to fix it, keyboard works fine though.
